Description

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Grid Energy Storage to join Professor David Howey’s Group at the Department of Engineering Science in central Oxford. The post is funded by Innovate UK and is fixed-term for 24 months or until 31 March 2022, whichever is sooner.


The successful candidate will be part of the Innovate UK Smart Demonstrator Project “Energy Superhub Oxford”, funded by the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Prospering from the Energy Revolution. You will be responsible for analysing system data, and developing new electrochemical and thermal simulation models to inform design, sizing, control and optimisation strategies. You will be responsible for developing new simulation approaches and comparing performance against real data, and will participate in group activities, project meetings, and external conferences.


You should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in engineering, physics, mathematics, or an allied discipline. Proven knowledge and skills in numerical simulation of electrochemical battery models is essential, as well as knowledge and experience in optimisation. Proven skills with Matlab and C++ is also essential
