We are seeking a candidate for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant position within Professor Ares’ research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford). The post is funded by the Foundational Questions Institute  and is fixed-term to the 31st March 2024.


For quantum computers to be used practically, a large number of qubits need to be controlled with absolute precision and without errors which is an extremely difficult task. The need to calibrate individual qubits, either to maximise fidelity initially or when parameters drift, constitutes a complicated and repetitive process, requiring deep understanding of the set-up and “muscle memory”.


You will develop the theoretical description of quantum dot devices electrostatically defined in different semiconductor platforms. You will also produce the simulators of different levels of complexity to inform different stages of automation.  


You should possess a Ph.D/D.Phil (or be near completion*) in a relevant subject. Youwill have a strong background in semiconductor quantum device theory and/or in the modelling of open quantum systems and will have excellent communication skills.
