Nick is a postdoctoral research associate in coherent X-ray diffraction microscopy. He completed his PhD at LaTrobe University as part of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Advanced Molecular Imaging. Building on an undergraduate background in biochemistry, physics and nanotechnology, his thesis “Development of Bragg Coherent Diffractive Imaging & Rapid Ptychography for Biological Imaging” focused on the extension of Bragg CDI to bio-nano-crystals and the development of novel data acquisition schemes. In April 2018 he joined the Hofmann Group. Using X-ray scattering techniques, his current project aims to investigate 3D spatial distribution of strain within nano-crystals. This, combined with electron microscopy, will form a complete picture of damage related effects within materials designed for use in extreme environments.
