Waqas is a research associate at the University of Oxford in the applied machine learning group, where he is leading the research on the development of bioacoustics detection algorithms to eradicate malaria. He has also previously held post-doctoral positions at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London where he worked on audio-based mobile health diagnostics and spatio-temporal predictive analysis of landmine risk, respectively. His main expertise lies in the area of applied data science and signal processing. He is particularly interested in multi-disciplinary research on bioacoustics and the application of machine learning in social and biomedical contexts.
