Phil Grünewald

Supernumerary Research Fellow, Oriel College

CoI-Phil Grünewald FICE (Technical Research lead), Oxford Martin Fellow and College Lecturer in Engineering at the University of Oxford, has pioneered novel data collection methods combining proprietary electricity recorders and mobile apps to gather activity diary data from UK households. Phil’s group also developed machine learning approaches to disaggregate and attribute energy use to activity patterns and appliances.

Dr Torran Semple

Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr Torran Semple is a multi-disciplinary researcher who specialises in social and energy-related issues, including fuel poverty, the equitable promotion of sustainable transport, and the analysis of various aspects of the energy transition. He joined the University of Oxford in October 2025 and is a member of the EDGE research group, who work on a number of ongoing projects, including EDOL, SENSE, and JED-AI.

Anthony Reece-Thompson

Programme Manager

Anthony is an experienced Programme Manager currently at the University of Oxford providing programme management for both Energy Demand Observatory and Laboratory (EDOL) and hub of all-spectrum connectivity (HASC) projects. He has a diverse portfolio of successful projects with The University of Warwick, Aston Villa FC, PVH Corp (Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein) and Adidas Group. He is an author of two books and passionate about sustainable outcomes in the UK.
