Women's Health

Our group is actively engaged in research on breast cancer in younger, pre-menopausal women, a population that is often underrepresented in breast cancer studies. Breast cancers that occur before menopause tend to exhibit more aggressive biological behaviour and can present unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Early detection and effective monitoring in this group are therefore critical to improving outcomes.

Our research aims to improve understanding of the biological, physiological, and environmental factors that contribute to breast cancer development and progression in younger women. We focus on identifying indicators of disease risk and exploring how these may differ from those seen in post-menopausal populations. Using Bayesian networks, we model the complex relationships between clinical, imaging, and demographic variables to better understand disease mechanisms and improve the accuracy of diagnosis, risk assessment, and monitoring over time.

In addition to scientific investigation, the group is committed to raising awareness and understanding of breast cancer in younger women. We work to highlight the specific challenges faced by this group, including delayed diagnosis, psychosocial impacts, and gaps in tailored screening approaches, and to promote open discussion and education within both the research and clinical communities.

Through this work, we aim to contribute to more inclusive breast cancer research and improved outcomes for younger women, while advocating for continued innovation and awareness in women’s health.
