Ideas, Inspiration and Teamwork at Our Lab Away Day

We recently came together for lab away day 2026, bringing the whole group together to share our latest work, exchange ideas, and enjoy some valuable time as a team.

Throughout the day, team members presented updates on their recent research, followed by plenty of discussion and brainstorming. It was a great opportunity to step outside our usual routines, hear what everyone has been working on, encourage one another, and explore new ideas that we can bring into our research.

A highlight of the day was our guest speaker session with Dr.Bapu Koundinya Desiraju, one of our lab alumni, who joined us from India. It was wonderful to see him again and hear about his latest work. His presentation sparked lots of questions and discussion from the team, making for a lively and engaging session.

Of course, the away day wasn't all about work! We enjoyed a wonderful buffet lunch prepared by Worcester college and had the chance to catch up and socialise outside of our usual schedules.

Our afternoon sessions also took us beyond the immediate scope of our engineering research. We discussed wider topics including AI tools, education, and insights and experiences from conferences that members of the team have recently attended. These conversations gave us an opportunity to think more broadly about developments in AI and how they might connect with our own work.

We finished the sessions with plenty of exciting ideas to take forward—and continued the conversations over pizza and drinks at the pub.

It was a productive and enjoyable day, and a great opportunity to reconnect as a team. Our next lab away day is planned for early spring 2027, and we are already looking forward to coming together again!
