HBL host research seminars on sports injury prevention and soft robotics for healthcare

We are joined by Prof Huifeng Xi, Dr Mohamed Irfan Refai, and Dr Ryman Hashem for a series of engaging talks on sports injury prevention and soft robotics

The Healthcare Biorobotics Lab hosted two research seminars in September 2024 to welcome the new term.

The first internal talk took place on 18th September and was delivered by Prof Huifeng Xi, a visiting professor at Prof Zhong You's Group. Prof. Xi talked about her research on impact absorption materials and how these can be used as protective equipment to prevent sports injuries. She also shared her work on motion tracking in sports and how it could be related to the understanding of internal forces on athletes' joints.

The second seminar hosted an external speaker Dr Mohamed Irfan Refai from the University of Twente and our very own HBL member Dr Ryman Hashem. Focusing on the topic of soft robots for healthcare, Dr Refai and Dr Hashem shared their unique experience and insight into human-exosuit as well as robots for medical interventions and surgical training.
