Openings at the Brassart Research Group, Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford
Openings
We are always looking for talented students and postdoctoral researchers with a strong appetite for physics-based modelling. Interested researchers are welcome to email me for informal inquiries (laurence.brassart@eng.ox.ac.uk), after reading the information below.
I would particularly welcome inquiries from researchers interested to work on the following topics:
- Statistical mechanics of polymer chains and networks in relation to rubber elasticity and phase separation;
- Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics of polymers towards predicting emerging dissipative phenomena including viscoelasticity, viscoplasticity, and failure;
- Computational network models;
- Plasticity in disordered media;
- Constitutive modelling of polymers, particularly in extreme environments, including high rate, high/low temperature or in the presence of hydrogen;
- Coupled diffusion and plasticity in solid-state batteries.
I am also open to discuss other possible topics aligning with the overall vision of the group.
DPhil opportunities
I welcome spontaneous applications from motivated students with competitive academic track-record for a start in October 2027 (admissions for a start in October 2026 are now closed). Applications need to be submitted by December 2026 to be eligible for internal funding, so interested candidates should not hesitate to contact me early to discuss their application.
Information about the admission process can be found here. Further information about funding options can be found here.
