AI4DH Awarded Second Place at the Oxford AI for Good Hackathon

We are pleased to announce that the AI4DH team was awarded second place at the Oxford AI for Good Hackathon. Over the course of a 24-hour sprint, the team developed a project addressing the challenges faced by one of the technology sector's most overlooked workforces: content moderators.

Content moderators serve as the critical line between online platforms and a constant stream of violent, graphic, and otherwise harmful material. Frequently underpaid and under-supported, they absorb significant psychological harm on behalf of the wider public, with well-documented consequences that include chronic stress, burnout, and long-term trauma. To address this, the team developed a hierarchical framework that restructures the moderation workflow to reduce the burden of exposure placed on any individual moderator. The objective is not to replace human moderators, but to better protect them.

Congratulations to Zi Cai, Noura Aqeeli, Chenqi Li, Joy Lai, and Anna-Maria Geist, who took the project from initial concept to a complete pitch deck and a live demo in a single day. We are proud of the team’s result, and their reflection of AI4DH’s mission to keep the people behind the technology at the centre of our work. We look forward to carrying this work forward.
