Civil and Offshore Engineering group research
Civil and Offshore Engineering
Our Research
The Civil and Offshore Engineering group undertakes a broad portfolio of research in:
- Environmental fluid mechanics
- Geotechnical engineering
- Structural engineering and materials
We work extensively on renewable energy, including offshore wind turbine foundations, structures and fluid dynamics, as well as tidal stream energy. Other areas of research in the group include tunnelling, wave mechanics, flows through porous media and structural health monitoring. Many of our research areas complement each other an we have multiple projects at the intersection of these areas.
We work with industrial and academic partners across the UK and abroad, and the group is part of the Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures (WAMESS) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). Two of the group's academics are also co-directors of the Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy Hub
The Department of Engineering Science publishes a comprehensive summary of the research in the whole department.
