Fulford Fellowship for Huiqi Lu

Researcher photo

Very many congratulations to Huiqi Lu for being awarded the Fulford Research Fellowship at Somerville College, Oxford.  This prestigious post is held in parallel with her Daphne Jackson Trust / Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship, and supports her research into healthcare AI.

The Fulford Fellowships are "intended to provide the opportunity for outstanding early-career researchers to benefit from association with Somerville College, and to encourage interactions with the wider Somerville community."

Somerville College was founded to "include the excluded", based on individuals' academic excellence. It welcomed women in a period of history during which they were barred from the University, and was the first non-denominational College in Oxford. Somerville alumni include Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Indira Gandhi, and the Nobel Prize scientist Dorothy Hodgkin. Now as a "mixed" College for women and men it aims to remain true to its founding principles.

As a Somervillian, Huiqi said that she "wants to improve patients' lives by developing AI-based technologies, with a special focus on maternal and child health".
