We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Solid Mechanics research group. The post, which is funded by the Dutch Polymer Institute is part of a collaborative project between Oxford and Nottingham Universities, developing a deeper understanding of the behaviour of engineering polymers and composites under impact loading, and producing models for this behaviour

The main focus of your research will be to design and perform novel experiments, including impact and high strain rate experiments, on polymers and composites. This will include numerical modelling of the experiments, and development of advanced instrumentation and data analysis techniques. You will also be expected to assist in the supervision of two graduate students, and in project management, including the integration of activities across the two sites.

You should possess a relevant PhD/DPhil or be near completion, or significant relevant industrial experience. Experience of mechanical characterisation of polymers in a research environment and the ability to manage your own academic research and activities. A good publication record with excellent communication skills are also required.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Clive Siviour

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position, CV and the details of two referees.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 4 September 2019 will be considered.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
