University of Oxford | Engineering Science Department - Outreach: Outreach Events

Upcoming Events and Support

at the Department of Engineering Science

If you are a potential applicant to Oxford University, or a Teacher looking to support able, aspirational young people you may also find it useful to explore our Resources for Schools and Potential Applicants.
We run and support a range of events throughout the year, please see the list below to explore potential events you may be interested in.

Institute of Biomedical Engineering Year 12 Open Day

Oxford University’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering is hosting an Open Day for Year 12 students on Wednesday 11th March. Unlike course-focused admissions events, this Open Day aims to introduce students to Biomedical Engineering – what it is, the kinds of problems biomedical engineers work on, and the range of subjects and careers it connects to.

Whilst the event is aimed at those in Year 12, we will accept students from Year 11, if over 16, and Year 13 with a strong interest in Biomedical Engineering. There are 100 places available. To ensure fair access across schools, we are only able to allow a maximum of five students per school. Please complete the sign-up form as soon as possible to secure a place.

Uncover Engineering

Uncover is a residential programme that gives female students and Black African and Caribbean heritage students in year 10 the opportunity to explore maths and physics subjects in the context of Engineering studies, while offering a glimpse into university life. The programme is run by Oxford University and students will stay in a college for 4 days. Days will be filled with engineering-focused activities and workshops organised by the Department of Engineering Science. In the evenings we have arranged recreational activities and social opportunities with other like-minded future engineers. You’ll also find out about life at Oxford and living in a college (including a formal dinner!).

Engineering Science Year 12 Study Day

The Department of Engineering Science and St Hilda’s College are collaborating in running an Engineering Study Day for Year 12 UK state school students who are studying Mathematics and Physics at A Level (or equivalent). Students will get the opportunity to learn about Oxford’s Engineering course, receive application advice, have a tutorial with Engineering tutors, explore the city, and stay overnight in an Oxford college.

Open Days

What's it really like to study engineering at Oxford? What are our colleges like? For answers to these questions and more, join us at the Department of Engineering during our University-wide Open Days. Stay for an hour - or the whole day.

There'll be taster lectures and demos from academics and researchers, information for parents and carers, talks by current students and tours of the Department.

International Women in Engineering Day - 23 June

Marking International Women in Engineering Day, each June we invite students of all ages to learn about our female engineering researchers, finding out about their research and what it's like to work as an engineer.

UNIQ

UNIQ is the University of Oxford’s access programme for UK state school students. We prioritise places for students with good grades from backgrounds that are under-represented at Oxford and other universities. Every year more students from diverse backgrounds get offered places at Oxford with help from UNIQ.
