at the Department of Engineering Science
Year 12 Engineering Science Study Day - Friday 8 January 2027
The University of Oxford’s Department of Engineering Science and St Hilda’s College are collaborating in running an Engineering Study Day for Year 12s. This day will allow year 12 students from UK state schools the opportunity to learn more about Engineering Science at Oxford University as well as experience a taste of life as an undergraduate at Oxford University by staying overnight in an Oxford College.
This will take place on Friday 8 January 2027.
Overnight accommodation, including breakfast the following morning, will be provided for free in St Hilda's College on Thursday 7th January to allow for an early start on the Friday. We expect all attendees to stay overnight to ensure an efficient, timely start to the Study Day. Unfortunately, we are unable to allow family members, including parents, to attend any of the events or stay overnight.
Applicants must:
Attend a UK state-funded school or sixth form college.
Be in year 12 (or equivalent)
Be studying Maths and Physics at A level
We have a limited number of places. If the event is oversubscribed, we will prioritise academically strong applicants from disadvantaged postcodes using IMD data, underrepresented backgrounds in engineering, and from schools with a weaker history of progression to higher education.
Uncover Engineering - March/April 2027
Uncover is a residential programme that gives female students and Black, African and Caribbean heritage students in year 10 the opportunity to explore maths and physics subjects in the context of Engineering studies, while offering a glimpse into university life. The programme is run by Oxford University and students will stay in a college for 4 days. Days will be filled with engineering-focused activities and workshops. In the evenings we have arranged recreational activities and social opportunities with other like-minded future engineers. You’ll also find out about life at Oxford and living in a college (including a formal dinner!).
Uncover applications will close on 31 December 2026.
International Women in Engineering Day - 23 June
The Department celebrates International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June each year.
As part of this the Outreach Team aim to run an event for young female aspiring engineers - more details in 2027.
UNIQ
UNIQ is the University of Oxford’s access programme for UK state school students. The scheme prioritise places for students with good grades from backgrounds that are disadvantaged. Every year more students from diverse backgrounds get offered places at Oxford with help from UNIQ.
