We are seeking a full time Safety Officer and Laboratory Manager to join the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Engineering Science (Headington). The post is offered on a permanent basis.
You will have responsibility for the oversight of all laboratories in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBME) involving approximately 20 principal investigators and 160 research workers. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the laboratories are effectively managed. Working closely with the lead academic for each laboratory, you will ensure the laboratories provide a clean and safe working environment. You will also provide co-ordination and support for the research laboratory and infrastructure needs of specific research programmes, and assist with Biomedical Engineering practical classes and coursework modules.
You should hold a first degree in life sciences, chemistry or a related field, or equivalent vocational qualification or equivalent experience in laboratory management. You should also have previous experience of working in an experimental laboratory and the ability to manage in an organised manner the day-to-day tasks involved in maintaining the smooth running of a research lab. Excellent interpersonal skills and specific knowledge of COSHH regulations and experience of working with chemicals within a lab environment are also essential for this position.
