Description
We are seeking a part-time (0.50 FTE) Research Software Engineer to join the Visual Geometry Group research group at the Department of Engineering Science central Oxford. The post is funded by EPSRC and is fixed-term to 28 Feb 2027.We are seeking to appoint an experienced Research Software Engineer for a fixed term to carry out software development and integration work. You will be responsible for creating a deployment template for the Visual AI project’s multimodal search software on generic cloud-based infrastructure, targeting users in the cultural heritage and media management sectors.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD/DPhil with a significant software development component, or have equivalent experience of software development in a research environment (e.g., Research MSc and 3 years industry experience in a software engineering role).
You will be an experienced full-stack developer, with a broad knowledge of research software integration, including front-end user interface design, data management and performance testing. You will be embedded within the Visual Geometry Group’s Research Software Engineer team, but will have the ability to work independently and in dialogue with non-technical users. Experience in working with image processing libraries; with audiovisual data; and with common humanities data schemas and search scenarios would be an advantage.
