Description
We are seeking a full-time Robotics Technician to join our team at Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), an independent institute within the Dept of Engineering Science in central Oxford. This is a technical role in support of existing research activities as led by our academics. The post is fixed-term for 24 months in the first instance.A recent winner of The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for innovation in autonomous robotic technologies, the ORI is a diverse and collaborative community composed of researchers, engineers, and students all united in our drive to transform what robots can do for us. Our current interests are diverse – from flying to grasping, from inspection to running, from haptics to driving, from exploring to planning. We are the only group in the UK that specialises in large-scale mobile autonomy - both indoors and outdoors. We validate our thinking and challenge ourselves by deploying robotic systems in real application environments.
As the successful candidate, you will play an active role within a multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of the Autonomous Robotics MSc by helping to prepare, manage, and maintain robotic systems used in teaching and student projects. In addition, you will contribute to a broader portfolio of research activities, assisting with system integration, installation, calibration, and software deployment across a range of robotic platforms.
The role will also involve supporting demonstrations and field trials, working alongside on-site teams to oversee robotic systems from both a technical and health and safety perspective. You will also take responsibility for managing and operating the ORI’s Vicon motion capture system, acting as the primary point of contact for its setup, calibration, and day-to-day use in both teaching and research activities. You will be motivated not only to operate and maintain these systems, but also to identify opportunities for improving processes and enhancing system performance, while developing your own skills through hands-on experience in real-world robotics applications. For more information about the ORI, please see: ori.ox.ac.uk
