Description

We are seeking a full time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Multiphysics Modelling of Biodegradable Polymers to join Laurence Brassart’s research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by EPSRC and is fixed-term for 24 months with a start date of 6th September 2021 or as soon as possible after.

The project aims to develop a coupled-field continuum theory and constitutive models for polymers degrading by hydrolysis under mechanical loads. The theory will couple large deformations, mass transport and chemical degradation. Relevant applications include polymers used as bioresorbable medical implants. You will be contributing to the development of the theoretical framework, and lead the computational tasks (implementation of the theory in a finite element code and numerical studies).

You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be near completion), with significant knowledge/expertise in Solid Mechanics, Constitutive Modelling and Finite Elements. Experience in programming (C/C++, Python) is also required.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Laurence Brassart (laurence.brassart@eng.ox.ac.uk)

Only online applications received before midday on 17th May 2021 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
