Faraday Discovery Fellowships

The Royal Society Faraday Discovery Fellowships 2026

The Faraday Discovery Fellowships are prestigious long-term awards that will support emerging research leaders to undertake high-quality, original research. The programme is aimed at outstanding mid-career STEM researchers and will provide grants of up to £8m over a ten-year period.

Candidates should have between 10–20 years of experience post-PhD and the Royal Society particularly welcomes applications from candidates who have had changes in discipline or research direction, or time working on industrial research.

There will be a departmental selection process to select the top candidates that will be put forward to the Royal Society by the Department. Applications to this selection process will close on 22 August 2025.

The Department welcomes enquiries from external researchers who would significantly enhance research within the Department and increase breadth and diversity within Faculty. External candidates will be invited to discuss their application with the Head of Department prior to the selection process.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an email enquiry with the subject ‘Faraday Discovery External Applicant’ to research@eng.ox.ac.uk in good time before 22 August 2025 to arrange a discussion about your research, your application, and how this would fit into the Oxford research environment.
