Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Protocols for Thermodynamics Measurements at the Nanoscale

We are seeking a candidate for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant position within Professor Ares’ research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford). The post is funded by the Foundational Questions Institute and is fixed-term to the 16th July 2023.


The Oxford-led FQXI-“Information as Fuel” project, is concerned with building theoretical models and predictions to quantify the thermodynamic work needed to perform certain quantum information processing tasks, such as Landauer erasure and work extraction from coherences, and measuring such exchanges in the nanomechanical resonator platform for the first time.


The successful candidate will develop the theoretical description of the dynamics of the entire nanotube system consisting of a two-level system and a mechanical oscillator.


You should possess a Ph.D/D.Phil (or be near completion*) in a relevant subject. A strong background in the quantum thermodynamics theory and or modelling quantum open systems is essential along with excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication,
