Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Therapeutic Ultrasound System Development

Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an interdisciplinary research team in developing therapeutic ultrasound systems at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (Botnar Research Centre, Headington). The post is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is fixed-term for up to 3 years.

 

The project is a collaboration between 3 academic institutions (Oxford, Ulster, and Glasgow University) and partners representing the medical device industry and clinical medicine. The overall aim of the project is to develop new, minimally invasive therapies for currently untreatable conditions such as metastatic cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. The specific role of the person appointed will be to identify optimal ultrasound exposure parameters for successful treatment and configure a programmable ultrasound system to enable treatment planning, delivery and monitoring.

 

You should possess a PhD in a relevant area of science/engineering. You should have experience in the use of ultrasound for medical applications. You should also have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of researchers with both physical and life sciences backgrounds engineers, biologists and clinicians, and have strong evidence of research achievement to date. Experience with high-speed imaging, microscopy and designing tissue mimicking phantoms is desirable.
