Description

We are seeking a full-time Postdoc Researcher to join Energy Storage and Energy Carrier research group led by Dr Binjian Nie at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford).  The post is funded by Oxford University Challenge Seed Fund (UCSF) and is fixed-term to 30/10/2024with possible extension by another two years.

The UCSF is a translational fund focused on projects that can make a near term impact and has the potential for future commercialisation. The overall aim of the project is to investigate the synergistic process of novel thermochemical heating & cooling and hydrogen storage which is expected to have step-change performance improvements in round-trip-efficiency, volumetric density, and costs in comparison to existing hydrogen storage techniques including (i) compressed hydrogen, (ii) liquid hydrogen, and (iii) ammonia. The full-time PDRA will mainly conduct the modelling and lab work for a thermochemical heating & cooling assisted hydrogen storage unit.

You should possess a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant area of engineering. You should have experience in reactor or system modelling using CFD (e.g., Ansys Fluent, COMSOL). You should also have the ability to build experimental test rigs with the assistance of lab technician. Experience in thermal or thermochemical energy storage, solid hydrogen storage, chemical reaction and process engineering, 3D CAD design and materials engineering is desirable.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Binjian Nie (email: Binjian.nie@eng.ox.ac.uk)
