Description
We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Dynamic Properties of Polymers to join Clive Siviour’s research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by the DPI and UKRI and is fixed term for 6 months.
This post contributes to a number of projects on the fatigue strength of critical parts in gas turbines and other engineering assemblies incorporating highly loaded contacts. It is intended that the successful applicant will design, assemble and then run a wide range of contact-prompted fatigue problems. Ongoing work relates to friction measurements and simulation of wear, and contributions in these fields are also expected.
You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be near completion), with significant knowledge/expertise in experimental mechanics specializing in the use of servo-hydraulic test apparatus. Experience in the analysis of contact problems, as well as Finite Element modelling is essential. Good programming skills (Matlab, Python) are required, and knowledge of nonlinear solid mechanics is highly desirable.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Clive Siviour (clive.siviour@eng.ox.ac.uk).
Only online applications received before noon on 22 November 2023 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
