Salary

Standard Grade 7: £36,024 - £44,263 per annum

Closing date

Description

We are seeking a full-time post-doctoral research assistant to join the Dynamic Optics and Photonics research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EP/W025256/1) and is fixed-term to 31-Oct-25.

The research project you will be employed on investigates optical imaging instrumentation to assist with metrology during laser based manufacturing. New forms of imaging hardware will be developed to give better real-time feedback during laser processing.  You will be responsible for high-resolution optical feedback from the vicinity of the light-matter interaction. You will design and build a confocal microscope module to be co-aligned with a laser processing system, and use it to retrieve novel forms of information relating to the laser fabrication.

You should possess (or be near to completion) of a PhD in optical engineering or a closely related discipline. You will have experience of building and aligning high numerical aperture optical imaging systems. Some experience of laser manufacturing with ultrashort pulse lasers is useful but not essential. Your publication record should reflect your career stage.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Patrick Salter (email: Patrick.salter@eng.ox.ac.uk)
