Dr

Sarah Coy BSc PhD

Responsible Exploitation and Translation Officer, EEBio Project

TEL: +44 1865 618070

Biography

Sarah oversees approaches to Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), exploitation and translation on the EPSRC funded EEBio Programme Grant.

This includes:

  • Establishing mechanisms to identify and understand the inevitable uncertainties, ethical debates, and social questions that emerge from technologies the project develops and their exploitation
  • Ensuring feedback is assimilated to the Programme's research methods and practice, and that RRI considerations are incorporated to the evaluation of opportunities to commercialise research results
  • Promoting visibility of project activities to expand industrial collaborations, identify translational opportunities and broaden impact

She is an associate member of the Centre for Health, Law and Emerging Technologies (HeLEX) within the Law Faculty, University of Oxford, where she worked for 10 years before joining the EEBio Project. Within HeLEX Sarah planned and managed international research that explored the use of new technologies in health, including ethical considerations around the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), societal expectations for the use of health data, and stakeholder perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Central to these was a drive to ensure governance systems appropriately serve the needs of society, highlighting the importance of appropriate involvement and engagement strategies to understand values and expectations.

Sarah has a PhD in Developmental Biology and Genetics and extensive experience of wet-lab research. She has also worked as secretariat for the Department of Health’s Policy Research Programme and the National Institute for Health Research, planning and monitoring research to inform health policy.
