Challenges in Ultrasound Imaging

Professor Noble will describe how the emergence of machine learning-based analysis coupled with large-scale data capture is changing ultrasound imaging. Professor Noble will use examples from her group’s research on fetal ultrasound video and multi-modal image analysis to highlight recent technical advances in, and clinical translational opportunities of, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled ultrasound imaging. Importantly, this field is no longer just about the quantification algorithm. It is becoming a truly interdisciplinary real-world data science field that is readily embracing and adapting new ideas from the current and emerging AI literature to progress the understanding of AI imaging technology acceptance and adoption in existing and novel clinical imaging settings.
AI is rapidly changing ultrasound and more generally medical imaging and radiology, but should clinicians worry about being replaced by a fully-automated AI systems in the near future?
