Researcher in Many Core Algorithm Development for the Square Kilometre Array

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be the world's largest radio telescope and will consist of two instruments: the low frequency array (SKA-LOW) will be built in a radio-quiet desert in Australia; the mid frequency array (SKA-MID) will be built in a similar region in South Africa.
The SKA will revolutionise our understanding of our Universe, specifically it will address questions in the areas of dark matter and dark energy, planet and galaxy formation, extra-terrestrial life, the Epoch of Reionisation (EoR), pulsars and transients.
The SKA will be a software-driven instrument that will pose extreme challenges: data flow and associated data rates, along with the computational power and complexity required to achieve the scientific goals are unprecedented.
We are seeking a full-time PDRA or RSE to join the Scientific Computing group at the Oxford e-Research Centre (OeRC) which is part of the Department of Engineering Science. The available post is funded by STFC and is fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance.
The posts report to Prof Wes Armour and the primary responsibilities of the postholder will be:
• Assist in the design and implement signal processing algorithms for radio astronomy on many core accelerators,
• contribute to the SKA Science Data Handling & Processing (SDH&P) development activities,
• incorporate their codes into a wider body of code that forms the scientific software for the SKA telescope,
• contribute to collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups,
• to assist with paid teaching (this includes lecturing, demonstrating and small-group teaching in collaboration with the principal investigator).
• assist with the writing of publications, conference proceedings and presentations that disseminate the work of the group,
• engage in development activities with the SKA Office, and with other national and international SKA partners.
You will hold, or be close to completion of, a doctorate in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent experience in one of these areas.
You should have excellent communication skills, be able to work as a member of a team, you should have the ability to present work at conferences, write publications, and represent the group at meetings as required.
