We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral research assistant in geotechnical engineering to join the Department of Engineering Science in central Oxford. The post is funded by the EPSRC Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy Hub and by the Department of Engineering Science. It is fixed-term for two years, starting from 1 August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.


The research activities focus on new design methods for the foundations of offshore renewable energy structures. You will be responsible for experimental aspects related to design, with an emphasis on cyclic loading, either through geotechnical laboratory element testing or model scale testing. The work will be applied to offshore wind turbine monopiles and more widely to the anchoring of offshore renewable energy structures.  


You should hold (or be near to completion of) a PhD/DPhil in geotechnical engineering, with experience in laboratory experimental modelling. You should be able to devise, plan and execute high-quality experiments and be able to evaluate, interpret and report data to a high standard. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be an effective member of a team.
