We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Impact and Shock Mechanics to join a team of researchers focused on investigation of hygro/hydro-thermal, pressure and rate dependent behaviour of materials for high-performance aerospace applications.  The successful candidate will become a member of the Impact and Shock Mechanics Team, an integral part of Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group at the Department of Engineering Science (University of Oxford Begbroke Science Park).  The post is available for 12 months in the first instance.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of experimental methodologies required to generate data for numerical simulations and certification by design.  You will have a Phd/D.Phil in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or Mathematics) or be very near to completion, with demonstrable excellent computer programming skills. knowledge and research experience in the development of experimental methodologies aimed at observation and quantification of the behaviour of mechanical engineering systems subjected to extreme loads is also essential.
