Description

We are seeking three part-time Research Assistants to join the Pierrehumbert Language Modelling Group in the Oxford e-Research Centre of the Department of Engineering Science, in central Oxford. The post is funded by the EPSRC program on Responsible Natural Language Processing for Intelligent Interfaces, and is fixed-term to 30 September 2024.

The project aims to advance the ability of Natural Language Processing algorithms to understand words and phrases that express a degree on a scale and simultaneously to use graph neural networks to understand how scalar claims are promulgated and modified in social networks. You will be responsible for designing materials for a benchmarking suite of social media posts and constructed linguistic examples, to be used in a large-scale crowdsourcing effort. You will also help to analyze the response patterns of the participants.

You should hold a first degree in a relevant field, (such as social data science, linguistics, computer science, informatics, or cognitive science), together with some relevant experience in natural language processing (NLP). You should possess good knowledge of programming in Python.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Janet Pierrehumbert (janet.pierrehumbert@oerc.ox.ac.uk).
