We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Physics-Based Modelling of Advanced Batteries to join the Department of Engineering Science under the supervision of Prof Charles Monroe and Prof Paul Shearing. The post is funded through a strategic research partnership and is fixed term for up to 2 years. To support the programme, the post holder will be required to carry out research on modelling of the transport, electrochemistry, and mechanics of next-generation lithium/air electrode materials and cell architectures. Using input data from experiments, the post holder will develop and deploy models symbiotically with experimental researchers to optimise design and manufacture of Li air electrodes and cells. This will include image-based modelling of electrodes, and finite-element simulations of cells and systems.

• Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline, particularly continuum modelling and finite-element simulations of multicomponent, multiphase electrochemical systems.
• Ability to manage own academic research and associated activities
• Previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations
• Have the ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation
• Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings
