Dr Abhirup Banerjee showcases models of the heart at the Royal Society Parliamentary Reception in 2025
Entitled Labs and Lawmakers: From Discovery to Impact, the prestigious reception brought together parliamentarians, civil servants, scientific advisers and leading researchers to strengthen collaboration between scientists and policymakers. Held in the House of Lords’ Cholmondeley Room and Terrace on 26th March 2025, the event aimed to highlight how UK-based research is addressing critical technological, environmental and healthcare challenges.
At the reception, Dr Banerjee exhibited the MultiMeDIA Lab’s work applying artificial intelligence and advanced imaging technologies to advance cardiovascular diagnostics and support more personalised care. The lab’s research showcased how AI-driven techniques can integrate multimodal medical scans, such as MRI, CT, and angiography, into detailed 3D/4D models of the heart, enabling real-time clinical insights and paving the way for digital twin technologies in healthcare.
Dr Banerjee was one of two Royal Society Research Fellows invited to present at the event, in a recognition which he described as an “amazing honour”. In a particularly proud moment, the MultiMeDIA Lab’s AI-driven approach to digital healthcare was highlighted by Sir Adrian Smith, President of the Royal Society, in his keynote address.
