Engineering student receives upReach Student Social Mobility Award from charity upReach
Awards showcase the achievements of undergraduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds from across the UK, who have excelled in their studies and show great potential as they launch their careers
Congratulations to 4th year Engineering student Anahy Mercado Zambrana, who received a Ten award recently at the upReach Student Social Mobility Awards. upReach is an award-winning social mobility charity that supports students to secure top graduate jobs. The upReach Ten award is given to the ten highest-scoring undergraduate nominees overall.
On 21st July, 22 students were recognised at the fourth annual Student Social Mobility Awards for defying the odds to achieve outstanding success as they prepare for life after university. Announced during a prestigious ceremony at the House of Lords, hosted by Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, the winners were celebrated for their grit, resilience and determination to succeed.
The Student Social Mobility Awards are organised by upReach to showcase the incredible achievements of undergraduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds from across the UK. The awards are to recognise students who have excelled in their studies and beyond, and shown great potential to excel as they launch their careers. The focus is on students who have demonstrated great resilience, determination or initiative, or boosted their employability in innovative ways.
This year there were over 250 undergraduate nominations, with nominees from 35 different universities. upReach launched a nationwide student vote to help determine the winners of the awards, who were then selected by an independent judging panel of ten l representatives across the fields of education, business, technology, and the charity sector.
The awards aim to showcase up-and-coming talent and identify those rising stars to watch in the years to come. Stephanie Lieber, Acting CEO at upReach, said, “upReach is proud to be organising the fourth annual Student Social Mobility Awards and shining a spotlight on both students who have excelled, and the organisations that have paved the way for them to do so. Having overcome significant socioeconomic barriers and mitigating circumstances, these winners and nominees serve as inspiring role models for those from similar backgrounds, encouraging them to set their ambitions high and realise their full potential.”
