RA Engineering Research Fellow receives “Ring of Honour” from the Association of German Engineers
Dr Maria Lissner has been awarded the “VDI Ring of Honour” – “VDI Ehrenring” from the Association of German Engineers for her interdisciplinary research and contributions to lightweight application in extreme loading conditions
The “VDI Ring of Honour” – “VDI Ehrenring” of the VDI e.V. (Association of German Engineers) is one of the most important awards for young engineers in Germany and the highest award given by the VDI for engineers up to the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves through their outstanding work in the fields technology, science and their social commitment.
“Being honoured with this prestigious award is a great recognition of the scientific achievements, research efforts and international collaborations I have established during my academic career.”
Dr Maria Lissner is a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow in the Impact and Shock Mechanics Lab at Begbroke Science Park, investigating the impact mechanics of heterogeneous materials, including carbon fibre reinforced polymers, 3D-printed polymers, and adhesive joints. Her work contributes to the advancements in high-performance structural design and analysis across industries and to more resilient and more efficient engineering solutions.
She received the award for her for her interdisciplinary research and further developments in the field of lightweight structures, and was described by the VDI as "a role model for young engineers". Maria expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, “I am deeply honoured and humble to have been awarded the VDI Ring of Honour. This prestigious award is a significant milestone in my career, and I am very grateful for this recognition. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the VDI e.V. for this award."
She adds, "But this achievement is not only due to me. I am incredibly grateful to all the people who supported me along the way. I hope to inspire and be a role model for young engineers, encouraging them to pursue their passions and contribute to the field of engineering”.
The award ceremony was held on the 5th December 2024 in Dusseldorf, Germany on the occasion of the VDI Board Meeting.
