Dr Abbas Fairouz is an assistant professor in the Computer Engineering Department at Kuwait University. He received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX, USA, in 2019. He received his BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering from Kuwait University in 2006 and 2011, respectively. He worked at Ministry of Electricity & Water in Kuwait as a system engineer from 2006 till 2014. He worked as a part -time faculty  member in the Higher Institute of Telecommunication and Navigation at PAAET in Kuwait from 2008 to 2010. He received multiple awards and nominations such as President of Kuwait Award on 2012 and best paper candidate on GLSVLSI'17.

His research of interests is in VLSI design, AI/ML processor design, Secure Computer Architecture, Computer Microarchitecture design, design of SFUs in modern microprocessors and coprocessor acceleration units using FPGAs.

Current Research Projects

  • Hardware-based sort algorithm for sorting networks: Proposed a framework of competition-style hardware based sort algorithm to speedup sort operation in sorting networks
  • Privacy-preserving in instant messaging systems: Build a ML-based framework to preserve and indicate privacy in instant messaging systems
  • Secure Chiplet-based System Architecture: Enhance the data-flow within the chiplet-based system between multiple accelerators and memory system
  • Plain-text dictionary-based compression technique: Enhance a plain-text compression technique using a dictionary-based encoding for cloud-based text database systems, as well as E-readers
