Arianna Margetts MSci

DPhil Student

Biography

Arianna graduated with an Integrated Master’s in Physics from the University of Bristol in 2024,where she specialised in the use of high-speed atomic force microscopy for characterising aerospace materials. She also undertook a placement investigating the analysis of X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy data of thin film semiconductors in 2023. Arianna joined the Solid Mechanics and Materials group in October 2024, under the supervision of Prof. Dong (Lilly) Liu and Prof. Felix Hofmann. Her project focuses on damage tolerance of Ni-based alloys at cryogenic temperatures.

Research Interests

  • Fracture mechanics
  • Hydrogen embrittlement
  • Hydrogen storage materials

Research Projects

Damage tolerance of Ni-based alloys at cryogenic temperatures: evaluating the tolerance of aerospace fuel system materials at cryogenic temperatures, to inform the development of liquid hydrogen fueled engine ground tests for Rolls-Royce plc.
