David Simonian MAI

DPhil Candidate

Biography

David Simonian is a final year DPhil candidate in the Impact and Shock Mechanics Lab (ISML). His DPhil topic investigates the dynamic behaviour of bolted interfaces under different loading conditions, from quasi-static to impact scenarios with the goal of improving our understanding of the mechanical response of bolted interfaces in aerospace contexts. This research has been generously funded by the EPSRC and Rolls-Royce. David completed his integrated masters degree at Trinity College Dublin in mechanical engineering with a master's research topic on additively manufactured strain sensors using 2D nanomaterials. He is greatly interested in inter-disciplinary work, having previously completed internships at Nokia Bell Labs on novel electronics and at Dublin City Council on environmental engineering. David has also completed experimental campaigns at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France, and the Central Laser Facility (CLF) at the Rutherford-Appleton Lab (RAL), Harwell, UK.
