Hui Ruan PhD

Dr

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Biography

Dr Hui Ruan is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Mechanics of Materials Lab at Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. He works on a new generation of mechanistic models designed to predict the service life and assist informed-decision on life-extension of offshore wind turbine structures. Before joining Oxford, Hui worked and obtained his PhD at Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany in 2024, where he investigated the complex hot cracking phenomenon in the additive manufacturing process.

Research Interest

Dr Hui Ruan's research focuses on computational modeling of fracture and fatigue, particularly in multi-physics environments, with applications in offshore wind turbines, additive manufacturing and battery materials. By integrating advanced numerical simulations with material science, Hui's work contributes to the development of effective and efficient modeling tools that predict material failure mechanisms and enhance material reliability and performance. His recent research interests include:

  • Computational mechanics
  • Multiphysics fracture and fatigue modeling
  • Phase-field modeling
  • Additive manufacturing modeling
