Biography
Jialun Chen is working as an Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oxford. His current research focuses on large temporal and spatial scale wave forecasting with machine learning to achieve a precise representation of the coastal wave dynamics.
Before joining the University of Oxford, Jialun received his PhD degree in ocean engineering with a specialisation in machine learning at the University of Western Australia. His thesis focuses on phase-resolved forecasting of waves and wave-induced offshore floating infrastructure motion. This could be used to facilitate safe and efficient ship-to-ship transfers, offshore lifting operations, and the active control of an energy extraction device.
Research Interests
- Machine learning-based wave modelling and forecasting
- Short-term motion forecast for offshore floating infrastructure
Current Projects
TetraSpar Offshore Wind Turbine Project
Identify solutions for advancing the offshore wind energy sector using machine learning to facilitate safe "floater-to-floater" transfers.
