Biography

Dr Jiaxiang Yi has been a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group, Department of Engineering Science, since July 2026, working with Prof. Reece Oosterbeek and Dr. Aaron Graham. His research focuses on uncertainty-aware and trustworthy machine learning for mechanics and materials, with particular interests in uncertainty quantification, multi-fidelity modelling, Bayesian optimisation, data-driven constitutive modelling, and the design of recycled-polymer materials and mechanical metamaterials.

He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, where he developed probabilistic machine-learning methods for material modelling and design. He previously completed his MSc and BSc at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His broader aim is to develop theoretically grounded AI methods that address real-world engineering challenges.
