Biography
Matthew is a D.Phil. student in Engineering Science at Oriel College, University of Oxford. He previously completed an M.Phil. in Scientific Computing at the University of Cambridge and a B.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on computational modelling of materials under extreme thermo-mechanical loading, with particular emphasis on ablative thermal protection systems.
His current work investigates the coupling between thermochemical response, internal damage evolution, and mechanical ablation mechanisms, aiming to improve the physical predictability of material response in high-enthalpy environments.
Matthew has a strong background in multidisciplinary computational science, spanning materials modelling, high-performance computing, and simulation-driven research. His experience includes multiscale and multiphysics simulations, with a consistent focus on connecting physical mechanisms to robust numerical models.
