Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Biography

Dr Marouf is a postdoctoral research associate working on experimental tidal energy research. She holds a first-class Masters of Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD in experimental hydrokinetic turbine research from the University of Aberdeen. Originally hailing from the UK, she has lived across the world, including in the United Arab Emirates, Bermuda and Argentina.

Research Interests

  • Large-scale tidal turbine experimental prototype design and testing
  • Unsteady loading on tidal turbines due to wave dynamics and platform motion
  • Pitch control of tidal turbines

Current Research Project

Supergen tidal turbine benchmarking project: blind benchmarking exercise where community members are invited to submit simulated results of the loading and performance of a 1.6m tidal turbine in various loading conditions which will be compared to an extensive experimental dataset, to quantify and provide avenues for improvement of numerical method predictions. https://supergen-ore.net/projects/tidal-turbine-benchmarking

CoTide project: an interdisciplinary project spanning four universities with the goal of developing a holistic, integrated tool for the design of tidal turbines that will significantly reduce costs by removing unnecessary redundancy and improving confidence in engineering solutions. https://cotide.ac.uk/
