Biography
Stuart is a DPhil candidate within the High Speed Turbomachinery Group at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute. He is undertaking research funded by Rolls-Royce, jointly supervised by Professor Thomas Povey and Dr Nafiz Chowdhury. His work centres on advancing the fundamental understanding of heat transfer mechanisms governing the response and measurement accuracy of total temperature probes in gas turbine environments. By integrating experimental investigations with numerical modelling, his research seeks to enhance the predictive capability of probe models and improve the reliability of temperature measurements under representative engine operating conditions.
He has presented the paper Calibration of Engine Temperature Probes in Ambient Facilities: Reducing Uncertainty in Overall Recovery Factor Assessment at the Global Power and Propulsion Society 2026 conference in Montreal, which is published in the conference proceedings (DOI: 10.33737/gpps26-tc-096).
Prior to his doctoral studies, Stuart achieved a MEng in Engineering Science at University College, Oxford.
