Biography
Tom is mid-way through a PhD, working with polymers and their role with ceramics in composite body armour. He began to specialise into materials engineering from his engineering undergraduate at Oxford where he worked with Nickel alloys. From here, he progressed straight into PhD work.
Research Interests
Tom is working with ceramic-polymer composite body armour, specifically the role of the interface between the two materials and its effect on overall ballistic performance. His main research interests involve:
- The high rate behaviour and modelling of polymers.
- Interfacial rate dependent behaviour and modelling.
- Ballistic behaviour and damage evolution of model armour systems.
