Biography
Mr Tom Tyler is a DPhil candidate in the Hypersonics Group at the University of Oxford, undertaking experimental research in hypersonic aerodynamics. He was awarded anĀ EPSRC DTP scholarship. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2023 with a BA and an MEng in Engineering. Tom was awarded the Ricardo Prize in Thermodynamics as the top-ranked thermodynamics student in the University. For his MEng, Tom developed a probabilistic machine learning design tool for axial turbine blades.
He has undertaken internships with both BAE Systems and Microlink Devices. With BAE, he was a part of the flight trial team for the PHASA-8 aircraft and led the design of its launch gear. At Microlink, he designed and built a novel machine to rapidly cycle solar cell interconnects, with the results used to optimise strain-relief design.
Outside of the Lab, Tom is an experienced rower and rowing coach. He is also a follower of F1 and Football.
