Biography
Victor Choi is a postdoctoral researcher at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). Victor is a pharmacist and formulation chemist by training, obtaining an MPharm from University College London and DPhil from the University of Oxford. Working under the supervision of Dr. Gang Zheng and Dr. Maneesha Rajora at the University of Toronto, Victor’s work was focused on evaluating the mechanisms behind sonodynamic therapy using porphyrin microbubbles.
Supervised by Prof. Eleanor Stride and Dr. Dario Carugo, Victor’s doctoral work was focused on the development of new antibiotic-loaded ultrasound-responsive agents (AURAs) for biofilm-embedded chronic infections which is now under further development by a startup company, AURApeutics, for clinical translation. He was awarded the international Outstanding Postgraduate Researcher award by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for his work in the space.
Research Interests
Victor is particularly interested in clinically translatable technologies to treat a diverse range of human diseases. Particularly, his research centers around utilising clinical ultrasound as a therapeutic tool to generate bioeffects in a safe, minimally invasive, controlled, and targeted manner.
