Biography
Yidan Kou is a DPhil student in the Energy and Power Group within the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on developing risk-informed approaches to planning resilient and decarbonised power systems across Sub-Saharan Africa. By integrating climate risk assessment, energy systems optimisation, and power system modelling, she investigates how climate resilience can be embedded into long-term power system planning. Her work aims to support universal electrification through safer, lower-risk infrastructure investment and planning. She is developing an interactive decision-support platform to help governments, utilities, and investors identify resilient, cost-effective pathways towards reliable, affordable, and low-carbon electricity systems.

Yidan's research interests include power system planning, energy systems optimisation, electricity utility planning, infrastructure resilience, power system decarbonisation, and energy policy.
Current Research Project
A DPhil project developing tools and methodologies to support evidence-based planning of resilient electricity infrastructure.
