Biography

Zirui is a DPhil student in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Process Equipment and Control Engineering (Dalian University of Technology) and a Master's degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering (Imperial College London). He is an associate member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC), and he focus on carbon capture, renewable energy development and energy recovery to combat climate change and promote sustainable industrial practices.

Research Interests

  • Carbon capture: Development and setup of a rig for carbon capture using the calcium looping process.

  • CO2 Utilization and Storage: Conversion of CO2 into high-value added products such as methanol, syn gas and etc.

  • Heat Recovery and Storage: Waste heat recovery to balance peak and off-peak energy requirements.

Current Projects

  • Calcium Looping for Carbon Capture: Developing a rig to capture CO2 through calcium looping and convert it into high-value products like methanol and syngas.

  • Waste Heat Recovery: Implementing integration systems to recover waste heat from industrial process to manage peak and off-peak energy demands efficiently.

  • Experimental Setup: Construct the gram-level Rig and integration system for carbon capture, CO2 utilization and heat recovery

  • Simulation and Optimization: Utilizing COMSOL and Aspen to simulate and optimize the heat exchange and CO2 conversion processes for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
