About MSc in Autonomous Robotics at the University of Oxford
MSc in Autonomous Robotics
Robotics is advancing at an extraordinary pace. Autonomous systems are already changing the way we travel, work, manufacture, provide healthcare, explore challenging environments, and understand the world around us. As advances in artificial intelligence, sensing, computation, and engineering continue to come together, robots will become increasingly capable and increasingly present in our everyday lives. This creates enormous opportunities, but also important technical and societal challenges. The course aims to provide candidates with the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills required to shape how these technologies develop and ensure that they are useful, trustworthy, and responsible.
Led by researchers at the forefront of robotics research, the MSc in Autonomous Robotics course will provide a rigorous blend of research-led teaching and hands-on training, which will enable candidates to analyse real-world applications of robotics and design integrated autonomous systems over 11months. Candidates on the course will explore cutting-edge topics such as AI and machine learning, soft robot fabrication, path planning and motion generation, mapping and state estimation, and the sustainable application of robotics technologies. With access to Oxford's modern lab facilities, candidates will develop practical skills in robotics research and development.
Further, as the course maintains strong engagement with industry partners – such as autonomous vehicle developers, healthcare robotics firms, and AI research institutions – candidates will gain direct exposure to real-world applications and career opportunities. Industrial collaborations will also enable candidates to work on practical case studies and contribute to ongoing research projects, further enhancing future employability. More details about the course can be found in the course handbook.
