The Department of Engineering Science intends to appoint an Associate Professor of Engineering Science (Biomedical Imaging) from 1st October 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be based at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (OX3 7DQ) and will be offered a Nontutorial Fellowship at Wolfson College, with Governing Body membership, under arrangements described in the Job Description. The salary will be on a scale currently from £48,114 to £64,605 per annum plus additional benefits as indicated in the Job Description. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
This appointment will add further strength to the Department’s research in biomedical engineering and its applications. Applications are sought from across a diverse set of disciplines under the biomedical imaging umbrella including, for example – machine learning in diagnostic and/or interventional radiology; image guidance and monitoring of novel brain therapies; cancer imaging and guidance of novel oncological therapies; and, cardiovascular or trauma imaging. Applications from candidates with a strong computational and/or translational healthcare imaging research background are welcome.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in biomedical imaging, medical image analysis or a relevant sub-field of computer science, physics or engineering. Candidates should have a proven research track record in the general field of biomedical imaging, witnessed by peer reviewed publications and collaborations. They will contribute to research in biomedical engineering, supervise research students and research assistants, and obtain external funding to enable development of new and independent research. They will contribute to the teaching of core undergraduate courses in the Department of Engineering Science, which may include lectures, taught classes, practical laboratories, and the supervision of undergraduate design and project work. For the College, an aspiration has been set for the composition of Governing Body that reaches 50% of Fellows who identify as female, and a minimum of 25% black and ethnic minority.
